CONCEPT + DESIGN
Brew Magazine
Background: Tasked with making a magazine about anything, I honed in on my favorite topic - coffee! Brew is a conceptual magazine meant to showcase not only my interests but my inclination for playful color palettes, typography, and composition.
Design Process: When diving into this project, I was overwhelmed with the possibilities. What should it be about? How can that topic be reinvigorated and revisited multiple times in future issues? How do you keep the design and visual elements feeling fresh month after month? Once I landed on the topic of coffee, I got to work drinking coffee and researching notable coffee magazines to see what the design strategy for the industry had been up to until this point.
Design Solution: I learned that coffee descriptions, methods, and stories can be very detailed and specific. For this reason, I decided to design simply. I highlighted visual elements within each topic that could help inform the personality of each spread. I let each topic inspire the direction of each spread while maintaining visual consistencies throughout to tie the whole magazine together.
